Chinese New Year Gala Set for 16 Cities

New York City (November 10, 2005)‚ New Tang Dynasty TV's 2006 Chinese New Year Global Gala will be held in 16 cities worldwide, according to NTDTV President Zhong Lee. Speaking at the satellite television network‚ headquartered in Manhattan, Lee said the New York Gala will be held at Radio City Music Hall on January 20 and 21, 2006.

New Tang Dynasty’s New York gala is one of several Chinese New Year celebrations that the independent, Chinese-language television station is coordinating. International locations include Sydney, Paris, Toronto, Hong Kong, as well as several other cities across the United States.

Lee said that the Gala reflects NTDTV’s mission to “Bring traditional Eastern culture to Western audiences, tell some of the stories unique to Chinese culture, and create a dialogue of understanding between the East and the West.”

“This year our theme is ‘Myths and Legends,’ Lee noted. “Every culture has its own legends and we want to let people know about the amazing stories that are embedded in China’s thousands of years of history. We want to present to people the most genuine traditional Chinese culture. Audiences will see many enduring myths played out in the performances.”

Gala organizers hope to attract Westerners in addition to Chinese audiences. Although details have not been made public, Lee said they are designing a program that Westerners will be able to enjoy.

“This event is for everyone,” he remarked. “We try to bring the best from both Chinese and Western cultures.”

The 2006 New Year celebrations will begin with three performances in New York City, on January 20 and January 21 before traveling to Boston, Washington, DC and other major cities in the U.S. and Canada.
