Dr. Wang Shaojiu, president of NTDTV Canada

NTDTV has added the city of Houston, Texas to its list of cities to hold performances of its 2006 Chinese New Year Global Gala. Houston will host the international event on February 19, 2006.   Artists from around the world will present an outstanding performance for Houston-area residents.

received and the following year the Gala toured seven cities: New York, Washington DC, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Taipei, Toronto and London. Building upon the past success, the 2006 celebration will tour nine cities in the U.S., plus Paris, Sydney, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Vancouver, Seoul and Toronto.

The Gala’s flagship performance in New York will be at the historic Radio City Music Hall. This will be the first time New York’s Chinese community has organized a large-scale event at the famous venue. NTDTV plans to have three nights of performances in New York, attracting more than 15,000 patrons.

In Houston, the NTDTV Gala will be performed at the Stafford Center Performing Arts Theatre. Located 15 miles from downtown Houston, the theater can accommodate 1,100 people.

NTDTV president Zhong Lee says that the Gala is tied to the independent, Chinese-language television network’s founding principle “to provide objective and accurate information to Chinese speaking people, to help overseas Chinese to merge their lives into the mainstream society, and to bridge the gap between the East and West.”

The 2006 Gala will revisit Chinese myths and legends, according to Mr. Lee. ”Chinese culture can be traced back a culture taught by divine beings. Buddhism, Daoism and Confucianism were intertwined to form the essence of the Chinese culture and history,” he says. “The Gala will depict many stories, both Western myths and Chinese legends.”

Mr. Lee thanked the Gala’s many volunteers for their devotion to the project. “Like the two previous events, we have many volunteers who support us,” he said. Some volunteers are workers and others are performers. The support of the volunteers and others is the main reason the Gala has been able to grow so quickly.”
