(November 27) Independent Chinese-language television network, New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) announced it has successfully passed the last hurdle for broadcast via the Canadian Digital Cable TV and Satellite network. The announcement came as NTDTV Canada launched plans to host NTDTV’s Chinese New Year Global Gala.

This week, the Canadian Radio and Television Commission (CRTC) said that New York-based NTDTV had met its strict qualification and evaluation criteria. NTDTV submitted its application nine months earlier on February 16, 2005. The network garnered considerable support from the Canadian Chinese community and mainstream society during the application process.  By June 23, more than 46,000 Canadians had written to CRTC or signed petitions in support of NTDTV’s application. Among them were 50 local congressmen, provincial legislators, city legislators and leaders of more than 50 community organizations.

“We are very excited about this moment, which is simply the result of the efforts and help from our numerous friends,” according to Dr. Wang Shaojiu, president of NTDTV Canada.

“On behalf the staff of NTDTV, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all our friends who have supported our application. NTDTV hopes to have your continued attention and support in the future. We will work harder to serve our viewers with high quality TV programs that embody the good, the bright, and the pure kindness,” he continued.

"Myths & Legends" slated for January

NTDTV’s 2006 Chinese New Year Global Gala will be held on January 28, 2006 at the Main Stage Theatre of the Toronto Center for the Arts. When asked why “Myths and Legends” has been chosen as the theme of the 2006 celebration, Dr. Wang said that NTDTV is devoted to promotion of traditional Chinese culture and that myths and legends of the gods are an essential part of that culture.

Dr. Wang said: “The culture promoted by the Chinese Communist Party is not the real Chinese culture at all. ‘Myths and Legends’ as the theme for our 2006 gala reflects our intention to introduce the genuine Chinese culture to overseas Chinese and Westerners.”

In 2002, Chinese living in North America established NTDTV as an international, non-profit Chinese-language television station.  They set out to establish a comprehensive television station that is not subject to any political power, but is independent, impartial and objective in broadcasting international events and topical social issues to Chinese around the world. NTDTV’s mission is also to enrich people’s cultural and spiritual lives and to promote human rights, justice, kindness, morality and goodness.
