Boston-area ticket holders are eagerly awaiting NTDTV's 2006 Chinese New Year Global Gala. The January 7 event is just a couple of weeks away. According to one of the organizers, Zhang Haijin, "It is great that the audience can enjoy the show at a beautiful, local historic theater and that this will be the first performance of the gala tour."

Last year, Miss Zhang rented a bus to take Boston-area residents to New York to see the Gala. "The show was splendid," she said. "At that time, I had a wish to move the Gala to our Boston area." Now the wish has come true and Miss Zhang is very excited.

"Many volunteers, both Eastern and Western, have worked extremely hard to prepare for the Gala. Those involved in the Gala preparation are devoted to traditional Chinese culture," Miss Zhang continued. "Some Western cultural organizations became interested in what we are doing once they saw part of last year's program on DVD. They have expressed their support and interest."

Miss Zhang said, "I am inspired about those volunteers who work behind the scenes with no pay or visibility. Bringing traditional Chinese culture to mainstream society is not easy."

In the recent days, Gala posters and flyers can be seen throughout the greater Boston area. The Gala has earned the support of government officials throughout New England, among them: Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank; Michael Capuano of the Massachusetts House of Representatives; Rhode Island Senator Lincoln Chaffee; Massachusetts state representatives Jamie Eldridge and Ruth Balser; and others.

Miss Zhang said that local performers will be included in the Boston gala, including an Irish dance group and a local children's choir that will sing a song in Chinese. "The kids are studying hard to learn Chinese and rehearse on tight schedules," she said.
