The 2006 NTDTV Chinese New Year Global Gala will hold its first performance at the Boston Cutler Majesic Theatre, Jan. 7, 2006. According to Boston Gala spokesperson Mrs. Xi, a total of 2,400 tickets for both Gala performances have been sold out. Today, some would-be Gala attendees expressed disappointment at missing out on the tickets. One happy ticket holder (of non-asian heritage) told the ticket office that he felt very lucky to get his tickets, since he had heard about the NTDTV Gala for several years and had been waiting to be able to enjoy it.

Another gentleman asked if he could pre-order tickets for next year's Gala in case he were to again miss the opportunity to see the live show.

With the Gala coming close on the heels of the Christmas and New Years holidays, local ticket vendors faced the challenge of selling to companies and employees who were away on vacation. To overcome this, after the New Year, many Gala volunteers went out on the streets wearing Tang Dynasty-style costumes and traditional Chinese clothes to help promote the event. This proved to be quite a unique way of gaining attention and Gala producers felt it was instrumental in selling out the show.

Interestingly, many tickets purchasers for this Chinese New Year Gala were Westerners, which surprised producers, who are primarily of Chinese heritage. They were told that many westerners in Boston admire the 5,000 year long history of Chinese culture and traditions- its myths and legends. When advised that the 2006 NTDTV Gala premiere performance would be held in Boston, many residents immediately expressed the desire to come and see the show.

The Boston debut kicks off a 10 city North American tour, which includes NYC, Wilmington, Toronto, Chicago, Vancouver, and other historic and cultural destinations. Some of the performers noted that they are looking forward to celebrating the Chinese New Year and sharing the essence of Chinese traditional culture/art/performance, with audiences throughout North America.

The North American tour will continue in New York City at the historic Radio City Music Hall for three performances on Jan 20 and 21st.
