Escondido City Council Welcomes Chinese New Year Gala

On Wednesday Dec. 7, Escondido Mayor Lori Holt Pfeiler, on behalf of the Escondido City Council, presented a proclamation to New Tang Dynasty TV’s (NTDTV) 2006 San Diego Chinese New Year Gala.
The San Diego Gala, part of New York-based NTDTV’s 2006 Chinese New Year Global Gala, will be performed at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido on February 9, 2006. Now in its third year, the Global Gala will be performed in 16 cities around the world, including 11 in North America.
The proclamation, presented during Escondido’s City Council Meeting, called the Gala “a grand multicultural music and dance performance,” and urged members of the community to come and check out the event.
To NTDTV president Zhong Lee, the Gala reflects NTDTV’s mission to foster understanding between people of different cultures. Lee emphasizes that “the event is for everyone. We try to bring the best from both Chinese and Western cultures.”
According to local organizers, the Gala has been enthusiastically received by San Diegans of all cultural backgrounds, and is a celebration that everyone can enjoy.
The proclamation comes as the preparation for the Gala kicks into high gear. This year’s Gala will be the first in San Diego, and organizers are finding many ways to reach out to the community, including sponsoring a drawing and essay competition, participating in local holiday parades, and generally bringing the New Year celebration to communities throughout San Diego County. This weekend, they will participate in the Escondido Jaycees Christmas Parade.
